Welcome! to the AspireFSX.com OSHKOSH

                 Day 2 Newsletter

Following Monday's opening OSHKOSH event, the first OSHKOSH held by the AspireFSX.com community, today was the turn of the Marchetti Flying Club.  Regularly held on Tuesday nights at 1930z, the current World Tour planner Frank (Boyho) took us on a scenic trip to Wittman Rgnl and into and out of, KOSH Airport.

This trip is the end of our "official" OSHKOSH celebration although the server remains "at" KOSH airport for the remainder of the week.

If you are at a loose end today, 28th July from 1900z / 8pm UK then why not join us for one of our very relaxed ATC events - today this is in Birmingham UK.  Our ATC sessions are deliberately kept simple and relaxed for the benefit and enjoyment of all and ...   more »

Welcome! to the AspireFSX.com OSHKOSH

                 Day 1 Newsletter

OSHKOSH 2010 is the first OSH event since AspireFSX.com was founded.  Although our event organisers Erv (ervski) and Frank (boyho), our photographer uksnapper (Tom) and a couple of members had made scenery check rides in the previous week, July 26th was our official OSHKOSH opening event.

With 11 pilots working in the pattern and around the locality the airport saw plenty of flights going through, and the custom scenery provided great visuals and a wonderful backdrop for some pictures, something that AspireFSX.com members are renowned for - the taking of inflight pictures to share their experiences with other fellow members.

Today, July 27th we repeat the event using the Marchetti aircraft as Tuesday is, typically our group Marchetti flight however we are not ruined by rules ...   more »

ASPIREFSX.COM ATC FLYING EVENT SPECIAL MONDAY MAY 24TH 1900Z (8PM UK 3PM EASTERN)

A session dedicated to ATC, this is the AspireFSX.com equivalent to the String of Pearls events that were started and subsequently run by SWSucceed on FS-MP. These ATC Flying Events will become a regular part of our events here but will not have all the complexities of the String of Pearls events in keeping with our belief that FSX has to be kept simple to keep it fun.

The link below takes you to the post with all the information you need - it may at first look a little daunting but read through it as it contains the flight plans recommended (you will experience passing traffic) and more detailed information for the more experienced. You can take and use as much or as little of this information that you can understand and then receive help for anything else.  And if you really struggle you can fly your own plan or direct GPS just let the controller know

Again the emphasis is on having FUN and doing the same in a RELAXED way! Details here: http://aspirefsx.com/viewthread.php?tid=630

MARCHETTI FLYING CLUB TUESDAY MAY 25TH 1930Z (8.30PM UK 3.30PM EASTERN)

It is quite staggering but this is the 27th group flight in the Marchetti's (let alone any other aircraft and organised event) since we founded as a community in August 2009 ! Departing from Leeds/Bradford airport here in England and taking us on a tour of The Dambusters achievements, led by the brilliantly knowledgeable Frank (Boyho) this is one not to miss if you can avoid it!  Details here: http://aspirefsx.com/viewthread.php?tid=620

ATC SESSIONS MAY 26TH AND MAY 30TH 1900Z (8PM UK 3PM EASTERN)

Wednesdays and Sundays are becoming popular as ATC sessions. Although AspireFSX.com pilots are fee to fly where they like and when they like evn during an event or ATC session, our controllers are providing such a relaxed environment in which to fly we are seeing a return to the days of flying traffic patterns and practice ILS approaches as well as point-to-point flying.

Watch the forum and look out for brief email anouncements on the next ATC session and come and join in.  If you feel that you fancy a go as a controller get in touch with Roger (Bond007) ir post you interest in the ATC forum area. It really is quite simple here at AspireFSX.com as we want FUN over anything else!

FLIGHT DATA RECORDER A NEW FEATURE TO RECORD YOUR HOURS

Developed and presented by Tom (uksnapper) and Bond007 (Roger) the Data Flight Recorder is a unique and simple way to use freely available and simple software to record the number of hours that you fly on the AspireFSX.com community. Firstly it is important to say that this is not compulsory or expected, it is just a number of pilots like to record their hours and it is a great marketing tool to show on our website and blogging site just how many hours our people are putting into being online.

Currently the data is assessed on a weekly basis and the past weeks hours shown along with a cumulative total.  In its first week there may well be some changes and enhancements on the way as the system grows and develops and I am working with the programmer on a branded version.  Read all about it here and ensure you download the latest version from our forum even if you think you have it as it will ensure you get the best results!

I hope many of you will take up the idea as it would be great to show FSX enthusiasts looking for a place to fly that we have typically more than 50 hour of group activities on our server each week if we can record them all! In the first trial week and with the 6 pilots that have so far taken to using the software already 11 hours were recorded in a couple of days, and with 12 in the ATC event that could be 24 hours straight away - one way to grab the attention of future members!

All you need to know is here: http://aspirefsx.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=135

WHAT OUR MEMBERS HAVE BEEN DOING IN THE LAST WEEK

AspireFSX.com always seems to be doing something, somwhere and with someone or group! Here are a few pictures of what went on last week ...

CONQUEST FLYING CLUB - 11 PILOTS - MAY 17TH

To see some stunning pictures taken during this flight by our resident photographic expert Tom (uksnapper) and to review the pilots report click here: http://aspirefsx.com/viewthread.php?tid=612

MARCHETTI FLYING CLUB - 9 PILOTS - MAY 18TH

A group of Marchetti pilots resumed the UK tour and flew south from Edinburgh to Leeds/Bradford airport in the north of England. At the time of publication I was not able to locate any pictures but the flight was approximately 150 miles and took a little over an hour to complete with Frank's (boyho) first-class narration and scenery-spotting.

ATC SESSIONS - 13 PILOTS/STAFF - MAY 19TH AND 23RD

Two ATC sessions, Wednesday and Sunday, provided very relaxed and enjoyable opportunities to fly some patterns or shoot some ILs approaches with some 13 pilots and controllers in the session.  A great mid-week relaxer and an even better Sunday chill out.  Our members frequently comment how relaxed and good fun these sessions are and look forward to the next! Must be geting it right, eh? Who wants complicated??

Wednesday and Sunday Night ATC Sessions in the UK

"It was great!
Thanks, thanks a lot to the controllers who have been so kind to assist me and the other pilots. The only problem (aside from remembering what the controllers told me!) was the scenario... London has a massive impact on the framerate of my pc so sometimes the aircraft was sluggish.
Piloting, even with the assistance of the autopilot from time to time, listening to the controllers, doing what requested takes quite a bit of concentration, at least to me, but it is immensely fun.!"

"Well Roger it was an experience for all. Craig and I had a good time and we were eventually joined by Sergio who controlled EGLL tower. Flying and talking to ATC seemed to be a good experience for our new pilots and I think they will catch on quickly. Let's keep it going."

"Great fun and can't wait to do it again - Aspire ATC is relaxed, friendly and does not have any of the hard-to-learn stuffy attitudes or "we like to think we are a pro-flights server so join us then learn we are not" that is seen in many of the other so-called friendly communities - GO! Aspire!!"
